1 INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES

This outline of reports presents the findings of a energy survey. Its objectives are:

• to investigate and report on the usage of water, gas and electricity at the premises, with particular attention to anomalies in the latter identified by the analysis of half-hour data patterns;
• to locate the electricity, gas and water meters, to verify that they are the ones being charged for on the billing and to determine whether the readings on the bills match site values;
• to find ways of saving money on all energy and utility usages, without compromising the Company's safety standards or the site's operational efficiency;

This survey is the first in a series of investigations into the Group's energy and utilities usage and its findings will only be fully conclusive once all the other premises have been surveyed.

Why manage your energy now?

It is more important than ever for organizations to examine and manage their Energy consumption. The Government has introduced the Carbon Reduction Commitment (or CRC), administered by DEFRA and the Environment Agency. It Will require any organization that consumed electricity in excess of 6,000MWh (Equivalent to 6 Million Kwh's of electricity) in 2008 to take More responsibility for its usage.The Government will impose financial Penalties for those not complying.

But increasingly this is being viewed as just the start of the Government's drive to reduce energy consumption in the UK by 20% by the year 2020. Obligations will further increase over the next few years, in fact there is already a proposal to replace traditional business metering with "smart" metering.
